Autocross Rules
I'm building my 240SX to run in the STS (Street Touring Sport) class in SCCA autocross competition. I chose the STS class because it allows you to be competitive on a budget. Modifications in this class are relatively limited and are similar to those found on many street-driven tuner cars.
"This category provides a natural competition outlet for auto enthusiasts using affordable sports sedans equipped with common suspension, engine, and appearance modifications which are fully legal and compatible with street use anywhere in the country." - SCCA Autocross Rulebook
The following is a summary of allowed modifications given in the rulebook.
- Tires: Maximum width of 225, minimum treadwear rating of 140.
- Wheels: Maximum width of 7.5 in.
- Suspension: Coilovers, adjustable arms, camber kits, any replacement bushings (except metal).
- Engine: Air intake, headers, exhaust, ECU reprogramming, engine/transmission mounts.
- Body: Strut bars, fender rolling, spoilers, splitters, body kits.
- Interior: Aftermarket seats (at least 25 lbs. each with mounting hardware).
- Weight reduction/distribution: Air conditioning removal, battery relocation.
Progress
The following is a list of the major modifications/repairs that I will be making or have already made. Work that has been completed is in green text, and my current project is in blue text.
- Install Megan Racing Lowering Springs.
- Remove seats and rear interior panels to repaint trunk.
- Remove air conditioning system.
- Install DC Sports Front Carbon Steel Strut Bar.
- Remove rust from trunk, and paint trunk area.
- Install DC Sports Rear Carbon Steel Strut Bar.
- Move battery to trunk.
- Fix hatch leak.
- Install new carpet.
- Install cat-back exhaust.
- Re-install rear interior panels and rear seats.
- Install Sparco Sprint-5 seats.
- Install KTS Coilovers.
- Install Falken RT615 tires on Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 wheels.
- Install Energy Suspension Polyurethane Bushings
- Install Whiteline Sway Bars
- Build custom air intake.
This list will be expanded as I plan more modifications in the future.
