PCA Autocross Event 8 (6/22/08) - June 29, 2008

This was another weekend where the only event was the Porsche Club of America autrocross. Since the forecast was for thunderstorms in the afternoon, not too many people came to the event. There were only about 50 cars.

Unfortunately, it started raining midway through the event. Everyone got at least four runs in the dry before the rain came. The rain stopped shortly after it started, and the event continued, but with the lot completely soaked, nobody was running faster times. I used the last four runs as drifting practice. I was pretty surprised that I could slide relatively easily with the RT615 tires on the rear. It required some more aggressive weight transitions and e-braking, but once in the slide, it was a lot easier to control than I expected.

This was the first event with the bushings and new sway bars installed. The car felt like it had little grip especially in the rear. There was much less inside tire spin than usual probably due to the stiff rear bar, but the back of the car was sliding around. I'm going to drive a couple of events with the current bar settings to get used to the car, and if it still feels too loose, I'll adjust the rear bar to the softer setting. The new bushings made the car feel a little more solid and less bouncy than before, but I didn't feel a huge difference in performance.

The results haven't been posted online and probably will never be posted as is often the case with this club. I did not finish in the top three but ran faster than the other 240s in the event. With a few more runs to get used to the new feel of the car, I could have probably gotten a top three finish.
